In the same way, a person needs guidance in the beginning of a driving course so too a person who embarks upon their journey towards the closeness and pleasure of Allah. Without an instructor a learner driver may cause fatal accidents or unduly prolong his learning.
Similarly, in the absence of a mentor, a seeker of truth may also fall prey to accidents on the spiritual path by unwittingly falling into the various pits and holes of the Shaitan, nafs and dunya or he may unknowingly elongate his journey. In this respect Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi (RA) remarkably opines that “whoever travels without a guide needs two hundred years for a two day journey”.
One of the respected Shuyookh of the past also actively promoted mentorship by orating that students “should heed to the commands of the Mentors and act on them. They will guide you on the path of Allah since they have already travelled on this path.”
At Prophetic Path the role of the mentor is to ensure that every seeker has a mentor assigned to them who is available to support and guide them through their early development. The mentor will monitor the seeker’s progress, assign tasks and answer any questions. The purpose of the mentor is simply to guide and facilitate the student’s personal journey towards the pleasure of Allah, in light of the teachings of the noble Qur’an and Sunnah.
We therefore strongly encourage all our students to utilise the free service that our trained, gender-specific mentors offer.
