Crowning Glory of Ramadhan (Virtues of the Night of Power)

Laylatul Qadr is the crowning glory of the holy month of Ramadhaan. It is associated with the sending down of the Holy  Qur’an, the last Book of Allah on His last Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), for the guidance of mankind. The Qur’an Majeed describes this Night:

“We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the Angels and the Spirit (Jibraeel) by Allah’s permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn!” (Surah 97)
The Night of Power is the night of spiritual bliss. Our Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said concerning Ramadhaan:

* “Verily this month has come to you; and therein is a night which is better than a thousand Months. Whosoever is deprived of it, is deprived of all good; and none is deprived of its good except a totally unfortunate person”. (Ibn Majah)
* “Whosoever stands up (in prayer) at the Night of Power out of faith and hopeful of reward, all his past sins will be forgiven.”(Targhib)

– Better than a thousand months

A thousand months are equivalent to 83 years and 4 months. Fortunate is the person who spends this night in prayer. The man or woman, who prays for the whole night during this Night, will deserve blessings and reward for the period as if he or she had been praying for eighty three years and four months consecutively. Since the Night of Power is better than one thousand months no one can actually measure the extent as to how much better it is.

– Exclusivity

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “Laylatul Qadr has been bestowed by Allah to my Ummah (People). It was not given to any people before this.” (Dur-Mansoor).

– Which Night is it?

Although there are different reports in different traditions regarding the exact night, it is almost unanimous that the blessed night occurs in one of the last ten nights of Ramadhaan and more probably in one of the last ten odd nights i.e. 21st, 23rd, 25th 27th or 29th night.
The popular opinion is, however, in favour of the 27th Night of Ramadhaan but that is not absolutely certain. The traditions indicate that it is to be sought in one of the last ten nights and preferably in the last five odd nights. It was therefore the practice of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and his companions to make I’tikaaf in the Mosque for the whole time offering Divine service during the last ten days of Ramadhaan.
Hazrath Aisha (Radhiallaahu Anha) reported that the Apostle of Allah said: “Search for the Blessed Night in the odd (nights) from the last ten (nights) of Ramadhaan” (Bukhari).

– Ramadaan is the Summary of all months

Many people have wasted many months, many days of Ramadaan; they have failed to understand its concept and wisdom.  Ramadaan is the Summary of All months. It is the Summary of all the lives of people.   It teaches you the purpose of life to achieve Taqwa which shall lead to Allah’s pleasure.
Fasting is the concept of true living and its reward is tasted at the end of the fast. The sweetness of the date, the freshness of the water shall satisfy the body through struggles throughout the day just by the taste of this blessing.
Allah [Azzawajal] has given us life to live, has instructed us to fast from the sins of the body, mind and soul. At the end when our life is drained to a close, death is its reward as even death is a gift for the believer. As the taste of death is bitter but when its sweetness reaches the heart by experiencing  the greetings  of the angels and meeting Allah ta’la and His Messenger, upon him be peace, joy will fill the hearts of the true believer.   Its feast begins and never ends, as all blessings have no end even in the hereafter.
Similarly those who violate  the commands of Allah, the exalted and fulfil their own desire and break the fast by committing sin and desires of duniyah, they shall taste duniyah which is bitter to the righteous but the evil people believe it to be the sweetest of taste. How deceived they have become, they chose to taste duniyah [Temporary desire] over hereafter  which is forever.
These people will taste torture in the hereafter for violating the commands of Allah Ta’ala, for immersing themselves in heedlessness and for those who fail to repair and repent from their sinful ways.
We should remind ourselves and others of the dangers of failing to fast [and follow the command], as those who miss one fast in Ramadaan need to resolve and make it up. What to say about those who break the spiritual fast by committing sins during Ramadhan?  They shall have to make up their days in the fire [For those who fail to repent]”.

– How should one spend Lailatul Qadr and the odd nights?

In the previous nations and past years, the secrets of Ramadhan and the blessed night of power were hidden. This Ummah was the blessed nation to be privileged with the Month of Ramadaan. Many of the previous nations lived for hundreds of years [Although they wished to be in the nation which you all live through].
Allah, the exalted has blessed this Ummah with blessings throughout the year. Ramadaan is one Month but its value is better the a thousand months. It is equal of living more than 83 years [83 years and 3 months].
People ask for long life to do good deeds. Ramadaan is one Month yet its reward is better than 1000 months. It is the king of all the Months and its days and nights are more blessed than all the other months. Many of the previous ummahs have lived hundreds of years, Allah [Azzawajal] has also given us short life but its blessings outweigh the people who have been living long lives.
So this Month is as though you have been living for more than 83 years of life.  So why do people waste such blessings, one good deed is equal to 70 times worth of deeds. What to say about the night of power, it is equal to all the nights of Ramadaan, for those fortunate ones who find it.   Our lives maybe short in number compared to previous nations but the blessings of night and day outweigh our life in ibadaah and reward.

– Laitul Qadr in Ramadhan is also present in everyone spiritually

Lailatul qadr is when one seeks to find its power, it is not just in Ramadhan but it is also within you all. Lailatulqadr is when you find the power to change your life to the life of my Sunnah.
One should pray for this power of change not just in Ramadaan but its effect stays within you after Ramadaan. It is to enable you all to enrich your hearts.
Search for this night and you will find it, In sha Allah!

Remember the Ummah in your duas.
